DER SPIEGEL – The General Assembly (GA) Second Committee is currently entering voting block. However, delegates have recounted the progress of committee prior to that. Tensions in the GA have calmed slightly as delegates finalized their working papers. There has been a sense of cooperation among the Member States. DAWN – A wide variety of solutions on implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) have been presented. Not surprisingly education, database and information sharing, regional planning and calls to reinforce existing frameworks have all been discussed. Update- Continuing Absences in the GA

Al Jazeera reported on the conspicuous absence of the U.S. delegation in the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly. With still no comment forthcoming from the White House Press Office, the US delegation has still not arrived by the opening session of the second day of meetings. Another surprise no-show for day two of the GA was Russia, who had been in attendance yesterday. Initial inquiries to the Kremlin seeking comment on the absence were not given a response.
